Connecticut DOT Sending Equipment to Help New York With Snow

22 workers along with jumbo snowblowers, plow trucks and other equipment are being sent

Connecticut's Department of Transportation is sending equipment and personnel to Buffalo, New York, to help clean up massive amounts of snow blanketing the area.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said three jumbo snowblowers, plow trucks and other equipment are being sent. Twenty-two DOT workers, enough to operate the equipment around the clock, are also making the trip. They are scheduled to leave early Thursday and arrive in the Buffalo area by noon. They will remain until at least Monday.

The Buffalo area has been buried under as much as 5 ½ feet of snow, with another lake-effect storm expect to bring 2 to 3 more feet by late Thursday.

DOT purchased 12 large snowblowers in 2013. Mounted on traditional loaders, they can move 1,500 tons of snow per hour.
