Entire State of Rhode Island Now ‘StormReady'

Ocean State the first in the nation to reach designation

The entire state of Rhode Island is now deemed 'StormReady', according to the state’s Emergency Management Agency.

The 'StormReady' designation is bestowed upon a community or organization that successfully develops a plan to deal with severe weather.

That includes having a 24-hour emergency operations center, having multiple ways to receive severe weather alerts, and creating a system to monitor local weather conditions.

Rhode Island is now the only state in the nation to have each of its cities and towns labeled as 'StormReady'.

Governor Gina Raimondo is expected to note the accomplishment in a ceremony on Thursday in Providence. Representatives from each of the 39 cities and towns, along with the National Weather Service, will also be present.
