FIRST ALERT: Heavy, Widespread Rain This Week

After a few showers in Southeastern Massachusetts Monday morning, much of the afternoon in Southern New England will be dry with some sunshine and highs in the 60s.

Across Northern New England, expect a mixture of sun and clouds, with a few spotty afternoon showers on Monday. Highs will be in the 50s and 60s.

A mostly clear sky develops by nightfall as high pressure builds in.

That means Tuesday is bright and sunny with highs near 60.

A First Alert is in effect for our next storm that arrives late Wednesday into Thursday.

Wednesday starts quiet, but clouds will fill in during the day. Heavy rain and gusty winds eventually arrive, especially at night. Expect a widespread 1-to-2-inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, and gusty winds.

The good news is that unlike the storm last week, this is a very quick mover, so it gets out of here in a few hours instead of a few days.

Southern New England, for example, will start to dry out early on Thursday. Northern New England will deal with some wet weather into the afternoon in all likelihood.

The bad news is that it will likely strip many leaves from the trees in Northern New England, where foliage is still peaking in many spots.
