First September Heat Wave in Boston Since 1983

Record heat continues Wednesday, with temperatures topping 90 in many communities for the third day in a row. That makes it an official heat wave.

In Boston, it’s the first September heat wave since 1983.

The previous record high in both Boston and Hartford before Wednesday was 91. Those records were broken by early afternoon.

Locally heavy rain will move in with a cold front on Thursday and Friday, ending the heat and sending temperatures back into the 70s. That's average for this time of year.
