Strong Thunderstorms Could Hit Region This Weekend

Summer sizzle keeps rolling through the tail end of the week.

Heat will gang up with increasing humidity through Saturday as a front approaches. Before it gets here, though, we have a shot at reaching 90 degrees in Boston on Friday. A slight shift in the wind direction will help push us close to that elusive temperature, as we await the first 90 degree day in the city.

Many towns and cities in the suburbs have already been there. In fact, Friday may make it a heat wave as the highs reach above 90 for the third straight day.

Thunder has been out of the picture for a few days now. Friday is no exception as the air remains relatively stable. A cool front approaches Saturday for a chance at some afternoon storms. Some of those storms may be especially strong with gusty winds and torrents of rain. The air will be juiced, as well.

Dewpoints will rise into the low 70s as a tropical airmass sneaks in. It will be entirely swept away once the front clears the coast on Sunday morning, however. So it’s just a temporary thing.

Speaking of Sunday, with the front just offshore, there still may be some cloudiness around. Temps will be a solid 10 to 15 degrees cooler with dewpoints settling back to the 50s. Onshore winds at the coast will keep temps in the 70s, but we should still nudge 80 just inland.

Next week will be off and running with the sun once more. Temps will rocket back into the 80s with a gradual warming trend by the middle and end of the week.
