It’s a warm, wet, and windy end of the week and start to the weekend across New England.
Waves of showers, downpours, and even a few embedded thunderstorms will move through New England Friday. It won’t be raining in any given spot all day, but you should be ready for rain almost at any point of the day, so travel with an umbrella or light rain jacket.
TIMELINE: Downpours and Thunderstorms Move Across Region
Temperatures will be quite mild in Southern New England while that happens. We’ll be in the 60s to near 70 degrees for much of the day. Extreme Northern New England will stay locked in the 40s and 50s.
The warmth is being pushed in on a gusty southwest wind. Gusts 40 to 50 mph will be likely in parts of Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Southeastern Massachusetts.
Another steady batch of downpours and storms will arrive overnight into Saturday morning. Although Saturday morning starts very wet, showers will taper off around midday, allowing for clearing during the afternoon.
A widespread 1-to-2-inches is likely between Friday and Saturday before that clearing takes place.
U.S. & World
As the sun emerges on Saturday, winds will snap to the west. In many cases, for those inland, the strongest winds of this whole system will actually occur as the sun comes out. Gusts will be in the 40 to 50 mph range, resulting in some downed trees and isolated power outages.
Sunday will be cool and sunny with highs in the 50s.
We’ll start off Sunday Night Football in the 40s at Gillette, before dropping into the 30s during the Patriots game against the Packers.
Another round of showers and downpours arrive during the early to middle part of next week, and temperatures will warm back up into the 60s at that time.
