Humidity Acting as Fuel for Potentially Severe Thunderstorms

Wednesday morning, we are tracking a return of that warm to hot and humid air from Monday as a warm front passes through New England and brings back fog and high humidity for a couple of days.

Early fog gives way to partly sunny skies and southeastern New England. Otherwise, it is mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. High temperatures will be in the 80s to near 90 degrees.

With this much heat and humidity, storms may become strong to severe with heavy rain and possibly damaging winds along with spotty flash flooding. The locations most likely to experience these harsh conditions are central and western New England around mid-day, and then central and northern New England during the afternoon and evening.

Low pressure north of New England will only slowly move by. That means another round of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday night and Thursday. The heaviest rain should gradually shift south and east, with everybody getting at least a little bit a rain. Some of us will even be getting more than 3 inches.

We face another round of showers and storms Thursday afternoon and night, with highs again in the 80s to 90 degrees. We should gradually start cooling off and drying out at night and especially Friday. The front may be slow to move off to the south during the day Friday, so we may still have some clouds and showers from Connecticut to Cape Cod the first part of the day.

In northern New England, the air will be coming from Canada with sunshine and temperatures closer to 80 degrees.

This weekend features a strong and large high-pressure system from Canada crossing right over New England into Monday.

That means great nights for sleeping with low temperature in the 50s and high temperature in the 70s with plenty of sunshine each day. Later Sunday and Monday looks like there may be a late sea-breeze, so it could be cooler at the coast. Overall, we can call this a nice beach weekend.

Warmer air likely returns the middle and second half of next week here and our First Alert 10-Day Forecast.
