Another dry, chilly day is coming up on Monday.

Clouds will increase during the afternoon and evening. Monday night, clouds will continue to thicken. Most of New England will be dry through Monday night.

On Tuesday, snow will move in from southwest to northeast. Even where we expect a change to sleet, freezing rain and/or rain, a burst of locally heavy snow is possible Tuesday afternoon.

Unfortunately, the heaviest snow will coincide with the evening commute. Snowfall rates may exceed 1” per hour.

Unlike the snow squalls the other week, this snowfall will be widespread and should have a fairly high impact.

Snow will change to a mix along the coast, and by midnight most of the frozen precipitation will have changed over to rain.

The only locations that will stay snow will be in northern Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Interior parts of southern and central New England may see a period of persistent freezing rain.

Unlike the last storm, which encased the region with ice, there isn’t a lot of cold air on the back side of this storm.

On Wednesday, any precipitation will taper off by the afternoon. Temperatures will reach the mid-40s except in northern New England where highs will be in the 20s and 30s. Friday and Saturday remain unsettled. Another round of heavy precipitation is likely, but this time it will be warm enough for mainly rain.

Sunday through Wednesday of the following week looks seasonably chilly. High temperatures will reach the low to mid-30s and low temperatures will drop into the teens.
