Weather Special: Old Ironsides

Peter Melkus, the public affairs officer of the USS Constitution, discusses the history of the unique ship

The U.S.S. Constitution is over 216 years old and is described as America's Ship of State.

She is docked at the Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston.

NECN meteorologist Matt Noyes sat down with Petty Officer Second class Peter Melkus to discuss the history of Old Ironsides.

"She is the ceremonial flagship for the U.S. Navy," said Melkus. "She's been caught in the Barbary Wars, the war of 1812. She's been around the world and she's seen it all."
