The nor’easter continues to spin to our south, bringing waves of rain and wind to southeastern New England.
Rain:
The center of the storm tracked farther east, so this is why we have lower rain totals so far. Heavier rain will pivot in for Thursday night across Cape Cod and the islands, leading to a few more inches of rainfall, more wind and wave action. Our NBC forecast model has about a quarter inch of additional rain across Worcester, southern New Hampshire, and Hartford. Looking like up to 1 inch in Boston, with 1 to 3 inches for southeastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Cape Cod and the islands through Saturday morning.
Wind:
Peak gusts have been between 40 to 60 mph along the SE coastline with a 60 mph gust on Nantucket. This strong wind has led to some reports of trees down, and wires down. With the constant northeast wind battering the trees and telephone poles Thursday night, this could lead to more outage and damage potential along with the worst of the wind. The highest wind will be through Friday morning, with gusts between 40 and 60 mph across the south shore, Cape and islands.
Coastal Flooding:

We had reports of some splash-over during the morning high tide, but no major issues. Our next high tide Thursday night, just before midnight will bring another chance for minor coastal flooding and more beach erosion. This will coincide with the peak waves and wind. Wave heights will be between 15 and 25 feet Thursday night. Even the afternoon high tide Friday poses a chance for minor coastal flooding. The wind and the wave heights slowly recede for Friday night into Saturday, so other than more erosion and splash-over, no flooding expected then since tides are astronomically low.

10-Day Outlook:
Saturday we will see a quick shut off in rain from west to east, with northern New England continuing to see great fall weather. Partly cloudy, to mostly sunny farther west through Saturday and highs in the 50s. Everyone will see a nice end to the holiday weekend, with Sunday being the pick as highs reach the mid to upper 60s with sun. Columbus Day may bring more clouds and scattered showers, highs in the mid 60s. Another round of rain moves in for Wednesday into Thursday, and we cool temps to the 50s heading into the following weekend.
