Quiet Tuesday, Stormy Start Wednesday

A burst of predawn wind gusts to 45 mph delivered our latest shot of cooler air - though even taking a step down in temperatures has delivered only near-normal air for this time of the year today beneath sunshine and a few clouds.

Those clouds will thicken late this evening in advance of an approaching storm system ejecting east out of the Ohio river valley and bringing developing rain to southern New England...Brief freezing rain to rain in central New England...And a burst of snow to mixed precipitation north, from midnight Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

The Wednesday morning commute will be impacted by rain and wind for many - with southeast wind gusts to 55 mph possible on cape cod and southeastern Massachusetts, the northwest slopes of the Green and White mountains, and the Midcoast of Maine, Downeast, with a few power outages possible in each of these locales.

In the mountains of northern New England, snow changing to freezing rain Wednesday morning will end as flurries during the afternoon after two to four inches of mountain snow and six to ten inches in far northern Maine and at the immediate Canadian border, while southern New England finds rain ending by early afternoon with breezy conditions lingering and falling temperatures after early highs near 50.

Thursday will be chilly and fair, then Friday we watch a storm center to our south to see if far southern New England gets brushed by snow on the northern edge.

The weekend looks fair and cool ahead of a midweek warm-up next week in the exclusive necn early warning weather 10-day forecast.
