Temperatures Drop This Weekend Ahead of Rain on New Year's Eve

Rain arrives New Year's Eve from west to east and becomes steadier towards midnight

A gusty southerly wind is becoming a gusty west wind across New England Saturday, dropping temperatures from near 50 during the morning into the 30s and 40s by afternoon.

We’ll enjoy plenty of sunshine in Southern New England as those changes take place, with more numerous clouds across the mountains of Northern New England. A few snow showers will also fall there, with the ski areas picking up a few inches of fresh powder.

Overnight expect mainly clear skies with a few passing clouds and lows in the teens and 20s. An isolated ocean effect snow shower is possible across the outer Cape.

Sunday is sunny and cold with highs in the 30s for most.

Clouds return on Monday as temperatures get back close to 40. Rain spreads in just in time for First Night activities, unfortunately. The rain will arrive from west to east and become steadier towards midnight.

In Northern New England some snow and a wintry mix will fall on the front side of this storm.

The storm pulls away on Tuesday, with temperatures briefly near 50 before dropping back into the 30s for mid-week.

Another storm is possible late week, but that is also looking like a warmer storm than anything else, if it does in fact make it to us in New England.
