After a cold and frosty start to Monday, we had a beautiful afternoon with highs in the 50s and sunshine. The clouds continue to increase Monday evening and we will be mostly cloudy overnight, which will keep lows milder in the 40s. A disturbance will bring in a few showers towards the North Country this evening and overnight.
Another disturbance will bring in scattered showers across southeastern New England Tuesday morning, then more scattered showers for everyone later Tuesday. Our highs will be in the 50s to low 60s, thanks to a southerly wind. We dry off for Wednesday as sunshine takes over briefly and our highs will be again in the 50s.
Thursday will start off dry with highs in the 50s, but a cold front will move through Thursday into Thursday night. Along this frontal boundary, an area of low pressure will track through or near the northeast into Friday. North of the front, we have cold arctic air, while south, we have more seasonable air. So any system that moves in will bring snow north and rain south.
The tricky part is where the storm will track. Our forecast models have been all over the place on that aspect, so we will see at least rain and snowflakes mixing in as the storm exits Friday evening. Highs Friday afternoon drop to the upper 30s! Overnight lows will be in the teens to 20 and with any wind, our wind chills will be much lower.
The colder air sticks around through the weekend, but drier air also settles in both Saturday and Sunday. Another chance for a wintry mix will move in for Veterans Day Monday with highs in the mid 40s. This pattern shift really looks like winter has kick-started in New England.
