Overnight and early morning downpours swept from south to north across New England, and while rain and big puddles were the case for most – a few towns ended up with a much bigger story.

A tornado appears to have touched down, causing damage in Douglas, Upton, Uxbridge and Northbridge, Massachusetts.

While not all of those towns’ damage may have come directly from a tornado touchdown (related strong winds may have caused some of it), our Early Warning Weather Meteorologist Michael Page was on the ground with our Weather Warrior truck since predawn.

He reports that a tornado seems quite likely to have been the culprit in Upton. Amazingly, no other damage reports were received anywhere else in New England.

New scattered downpours and thunderstorms will erupt Thursday afternoon and early evening, with all producing torrential rain and some creating lightning and locally strong wind gusts.

The action wanes after dinner with areas of overnight fog, then Friday starts humid but brings a slow decrease in humidity. Still, scattered mountain and hill thunder will develop, and an isolated storm is possible late or at night for the rest of us.

Saturday will also see scattered showers and thunder during the afternoon before much more comfortable air sweeps in with dry conditions Sunday and Monday…before we reload humid and unsettled conditions next week.`
