New England

A Snowy Monday Morning Commute?

We woke up to cloudy skies and a few showers, but as we transition to our Easter Sunday afternoon, the sprinkles and clouds will fade and the sunshine will emerge just in time for lunch or any of your Easter egg hunts that kick off at noon.

Through the afternoon and evening, sunshine will stick around and we'll see high temperatures into the mid-50s for most of southern New England, 40s for northern New England, upper 30s for the mountains. It will be breezy with gusts ranging from 25-30 mph, so hold onto those hats.

Overnight tonight, clouds stroll in after midnight ahead of the next system that will bring snow showers early Monday morning for southern New England. Even though today is April Fool’s Day, it’s not a joke that we’re getting another round of snow for Monday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory has been posted for southern Connecticut from 2 a.m. Monday morning through 2 p.m. Monday afternoon. Under some of the more moderate snow bands, it could cause for slick travel, as well as very low visibility.

Snow showers are expected to extend as far north as the Mass Pike, but accumulations will mainly be on the grassy surfaces, roads will mainly be wet to some slush the farther south you travel. It’s a quick-moving system, with the storm center passing off the southern coast of New England, and we’ll see a mix of sun and clouds for the second half of the day. Highs on Monday will be in the low 40s.

After a brief respite, another system slides in Tuesday, ushering in more widespread rain showers Tuesday and Wednesday, with a few showers mixing with snow in the higher terrain of the North Country. The showers continue into late Wednesday, before a cold front sweeps in, ushering in a drier, and slightly cooler airmass for Thursday.

Thankfully, the showers are out of here for the Red Sox Home Opener, but it will be a little cooler with highs into the low to mid 40s under mostly sunny skies.

Friday and the rest of the first full weekend of April features another round of unsettled weather that could bring a few round of wintry mix, but we’ll have to keep an eye on that as we get closer. Highs next weekend look to remain at or above 40, so I hope you took advantage of the 50s from this holiday weekend.
