High pressure that was so cold when it arrived from Canada Wednesday night is now pushing off the mid-Atlantic states, allowing for return flow of less chilly air by this afternoon.

Under mostly sunny skies, high temperature in the 20s north to low 30s south, wind will become light and variable. It will be mostly clear and still rather cold tonight, low temperature in the teens north and 20s south.

A strong low-pressure system passes north of New England with a warm front going by tomorrow. This means a mixture of sun and clouds, slight chance of a little bit of light rain north and west, high temperature near 50 degrees, with wind from the southwest gusting 25 to 30 mph.

A weak cold front comes in from the north Saturday night, with a few flurries in the mountains, otherwise mostly cloudy with a little temperature in the 30s. That front gets to about the south coast of New England and falls apart, leaving us with mostly cloudy skies on Sunday, a chance of occasional light rain along the south coast. High temperature again in the 40s to near 50 degrees. It does look dry for ski country on Sunday though with temperatures in the 30s.

Another cold or front is going to come into Western New England Monday, at the same time a strengthening low pressure system moves out of the Gulf of Mexico, to the middle Atlantic states later Monday. These features likely generate some snow and rain showers, if not a steady wintry mix, changing to snow, Monday night into Tuesday.

It may evolve into a nor'easter, either way, the weather becomes windy and colder Tuesday with partial clearing, high temperature in the 20s.

Fair and cold weather returns for the middle of the week, before another warm up and threat for wintry precipitation arrives later in the week for Groundhog Day. Then likely much colder, with some snow possible next weekend.
