Super Holiday Stretch Continues

Warm and sunny weather continues to rule across New England this week, just in time for July 4.

For fireworks Wednesday night, expect warm and mostly clear skies. Winds will be light, with temperatures in the 70s. By Thursday morning, we'll wake up to lows in the 60s to around 70 degrees. It will be a bit humid, but not oppressively so.

Independence Day itself will also be sunny and hot, with highs in many cities and towns near 90 degrees. Along the beaches, expect a slight onshore wind to keep temperatures in the 80s.

At Logan Airport in Boston, we've yet to hit 90 degrees this year. That's almost a month behind average.

Just like Wednesday night, temperatures will be in the 70s for Thursday's fireworks.

Friday will bring another day in the 80s to around 90 degrees, warmest inland and coolest at the coast. That will make it a heat wave in lots of cities and towns away from the water's edge.

Remember that a heat wave is three or more consecutive days of temperatures of 90 or higher.

Humidity will still be noticeable, but not awful, through that point.

Humidity does become oppressive on Saturday, however. Temperatures will still be in the 80s, and a front will approach. That combination will trigger downpours and storms during the day. It won't be a washout, but it is the best chance of rain we have during the holiday period.

Sunday, behind the storms, will turn much cooler and less humid. Expect highs in the 70s to around 80.

So far, much of next week looks great, with temperatures again climbing above average. Storm chances stay low until late week.
