Showers Return This Week, Severe Weather Possible Tuesday

Our active weather looks to continue

This is the first weekend day without severe weather in New England since July 13. Weekends have featured on-and-off thunderstorms through much of July and now August. The last time we didn’t have any severe weather reports on a weekend was June 22 and 23.

Our active weather looks to continue.

A cold front will move through during the day on Monday. It will stall south of Long Island Monday night. A wave of low pressure is expected to develop along the front Tuesday, which will renew our chances for showers and thunderstorms.

Tuesday, heavy rain looks to arrive during the afternoon. Rainfall amounts could range from 2-4”. It’s still too early to tell where the heaviest rain will set up and it’s possible that it could set up directly off shore. As confidence continues to grow we will have a clearer picture on who gets what and the exact timeline. We can’t rule out the possibility of severe weather.

Wednesday, we look to catch a break in between rounds of rain. Showers may return Thursday afternoon. Both days will be significantly cooler with high temperatures in the mid 70s.

At this point the weekend is looking nicer. We are expecting seasonable temperatures and a good amount of sunshine. It’s too early to tell if we will see a shower or thunderstorm either day. Weekend temperatures will warm into the low and mid 80s.

Temperatures in the 80s will stick around the following week. Showers and thunderstorms chances will remain around 20-30 percent, but don’t find a change of plans just yet. Stay tuned!
