New England is a split region Tuesday -- snow is likely in the higher elevations west and north, while we have a few sunny breaks south and east.
Low pressure is moving into Ontario with a significant cold front arriving in Western New England late in the day.
Other than some ocean affect flurries Tuesday morning, most of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, along with a good portion of Maine, is having a mostly cloudy day with a high temperature in the 30s.
From the Berkshires north through the Green Mountains into New Hampshire, by midday, we have snow developing and accumulating at the higher elevations. Temperatures in the 20s and 30s.
A wintry mix will change over to freezing rain and snow in southern New England Tuesday night and early Wednesday. In the mountains, snow continues through the morning.
Snowfall accumulation by noontime Wednesday ranges from around 10 inches in the mountains, to an inch or two within 20 miles of the coast. But the temperature is going to be falling during the day, so even near the coast, we may have icy side roads and sidewalks developing.

Temperatures start out the day near freezing in southern New England and end up in the lower-20s. Meanwhile. we fall through the teens in northern New England.
Another cold front will cross New England Wednesday afternoon and evening, generating powerful snow squalls that may once again ice up the roads around sunset.
Wind from the west may gust past 40 mph in the squalls as another batch of bitter cold air moves into New England Wednesday night. Temperatures on Thursday are starting off just below zero in northern New England and single numbers in southern New England.
Much like last Monday, the temperature will not move very much during the day. Even with a good amount of sunshine, winds will be gusting past 30 mph means one of the coldest days of the winter.
Wind lets up a bit on Friday, with a partly to mostly sunny sky. High temperatures will be 10 to 15 degrees north, and 15 to 25 degrees south.
We should remain dry Saturday and at the beginning of Sunday too.

A warm front approaches from the west Sunday afternoon with increasing clouds, and a chance of rain or snow developing in western and northern New England late in the day. High temperature in the 30s.
Low pressure is expected track north of New England on Monday, that means a chance of rain, or a mix in the far north, high temperature in the 40s south and 30s north.
Colder air gradually works in Tuesday, but we may dry out before temperatures fall below freezing. It will likely turn stormy again the second half of next week, it could go either way with rain or snow. Stay tuned in our first alert 10 day forecast.
