Patchy Ice Monday Morning as Wintry Mix Hits the Region

A convergence of fronts moving across New England will result in some slick spots across interior New England today.

A north flow from an area of high pressure centered near southern Hudson Bay will keep cold air wedged in across northern New England. Light snow will fall across central and northern New England throughout the day, increasing in intensity by the afternoon. Across southern New England, light rain continues ahead of approaching warm front.

High temperatures today range from the low 40s across the south to either side of the freezing mark across the North Country. A brief period of icing will occur across interior southern New England overnight with warm front stalling to our south. This warm front will work its way north again late tonight into Tuesday morning, ending the icing threat.

Overnight low temperatures cool slightly, more-or-less remaining where they were during the day in the low 40s south to near-freezing north. Interior valleys across the Mount Washington Valley and the White Mountains will drop into the 20s.

A fast-moving storm over the Great Lakes will approach New England Tuesday, bringing a widespread, heavy rain to southern New England. High temperatures will crest into the low 50s south and low 40s across the north.

We'll get blustery and much colder air on Wednesday as a fresh blast of Canadian air filters into New England. Temperatures will fall throughout the day on Wednesday, so expect the high to occur during the early morning hours.

An area of high pressure situated over Lake Huron will bring drier and cold weather on Thursday with highs in the teens and 20s across the north near freezing across the south. These temperatures will range from 5 to 10 degrees below the climatological high for late-January.

Temperatures will moderate into the mid-30s south to mid-20s to near-freezing on Friday as an area of high pressure moves closer.
