2 Million Remain Without Power After Severe Storms

(NECN/NBC News: Steve Handelsman) - Impatient utility customers are wondering why it's taking so long to get the power back, but utility operator are saying that the outages are the result of extreme --- and extremely rare --- storms.

Scorching heat has continued as food rotted in refrigerators and people went without air conditioning.

"Most of the stuff will probably be discarded," said one man.

Utility spokesman Mike Maxwell said, "this was an extreme event."

More potentially powerful storms, as well as more scorching heat, are predicted for Tuesday.
