(NECN: Tom Langford, Peabody, Mass.) - In Northern New England, big, fluffy flakes fell overnight, and many woke up, looked out the window and saw a reminder that winter is not too far away.
"I was thinking about crying," said Mark Pastore. "I didn't really want to look at it."
With leaves on the trees, the first snow did cause some problems. A few thousand people in New Hampshire had their power knocked out for a few hours.
Tammi Smith was one of the unlucky ones.
"Once the power went out, I said, you've got to be kidding," said Tammi Smith. "First snow of the winter and that's it? It's not going to be a good winter."
Smith says she has her generator ready.
And she might need it: A more significant snowfall is predicted for Saturday night.
