Additional Snow, Cold May Hamper Power Efforts in Maine

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - From 2 to 6 inches of snow could hinder utility crews as they continue to try to restore power to tens of thousands of people in Maine.

Snow is expected in areas of Downeast Maine starting Thursday and ending Thursday night. That means crews could have problems reaching remote areas.

By late Wednesday afternoon, about 56,000 people remained without power, down from more than 105,000 on Tuesday. Utilities hope to get the power back for everybody by Friday.

Emergency and warming shelters remain open around the state. The storm started Saturday night and stretched into Monday.
