Air Quality Declared Unhealthy

(NECN: Brian Burnell: Hartford, Conn.) - Air quality has deteriorated in many sections of New England as a result of the high heat and humidity, with health professionals warning people to curtail outdoor activities.

Warnings of poor air quality have gone out in Connecticut, central Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire as the heat wave intensifies throughout the region, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Haze is readily visible, indicating higher ozone levels, which are dangerous for people with respiratory ailments such as asthma.

Officials are advising against use of gasoline powered mowers, which contribute to ozone.
