BOSTON (AP) - A no-joke April Fools' snowstorm is sweeping through parts of the Northeast, a cruel prank on a region that was finally enjoying a reprieve from its long, white winter.

The spring snowstorm is expected to last through Friday morning - April Fools' Day. It could drop up to 10 inches of snow in some areas, including eastern New York and around New England.

The timing is making for a messy Friday morning commute for some.

In Boston, forecasts call for between 2 and 4 inches before the precipitation tapers off in the afternoon. Inland, 3 to 8 inches are called for in northeastern Massachusetts and northern areas of Rhode Island and Connecticut. Western Massachusetts could get up to 10 inches or foot.

In parts of New York and New Jersey, the storm is turning out to be more of a joke. A few inches of wet snow is expected in sections of upstate New York. New York City and Long Island is dealing with just rain.

In New Jersey, forecasts of up to 8 inches of snow in the northwestern part of the state have been changed. The day will be more wet than white.

In Pennsylvania, about 2 inches is expected in the Pocono Mountains, well under the original 8 inches that was forecast.

High-altitude areas of central Vermont could get up to a foot of snow.
