Boston Mayor Walsh: Right Decision to Cancel School Wednesday

(NECN) - Boston Mayor Marty Walsh reflected on handling his first major winter storm since taking over for Thomas Menino. Walsh credited the Department of Public Works for doing a great job in clearing the roads by staying ahead of the storm.

The parking ban in Boston will be lifted at 8 a.m. because the streets are in remarkable shape given the overnight conditions. Walsh said he wants to give people a chance to dig out and move their cars back to their normal spots.

Walsh said the cancelling of school in Boston Wednesday was the right decision. He'd rather have the kids in a safe situation rather than putting them at risk with snow still expected through the morning.

He urged those driving to work to take precaution. Roads will be slick. Public transportation is recommended.
