Boston Non-profit Prepares City Streets for Impending Winter Blast

(NECN: Katelyn Tivnan, Boston) – The Business Improvement District Ambassadors are dedicated to clearing the streets of Boston after snowfall to help out businesses and commuters.

“We have about 200-250,000 that come down here Monday through Friday for work- to live and play down here. And so, it’s very important for people to be able to navigate the sidewalks,” said one member.

More than 30 men and women make up the private non-profit group that canvas a 34 block area in the city, both treating roads before storms and cleaning up after.

“So people in wheelchairs can get across, people who are walking across not having to worry about slipping on the ice and falling or any of that stuff. They can navigate downtown,” said another.

So far this winter, they have spent 1500 hours shoveling.
