Carolinas Swamped by Tropical Weather Pattern

(NECN: North Carolina) - There is widespread flooding reported in the Carolinas today, from the tropical storm formerly known as Nicole.

Much of central and eastern North Carolina looks like this.

Tornado and flash flood warnings are threatening those areas.

Flooded streets, and overflowing waterways forced some residents in Carolina Beach to use kayaks to get around town.

Several businesses and homes there are swamped.

21 inches of rain has fallen on Wilmington since Sunday.

Local forecasters expect drier air to move in tonight, making way for a better looking Friday.
