Crews Busy Clearing the Sea Dogs' Field

(NECN: Marnie MacLean) - With just two weeks to go until opening day for the Red Sox Double "A" affiliate team, the Portland Sea Dogs, crews were working hard Thursday to try and clear off a thick blanket of snow from the field.

Before Tuesday's storm, the field was green and drying out. Now, there's 8 inches of snow. The grounds crew grabbed shovels and snow blowers to start the arduous task of clearing the field, without damaging the playing surface. The field was completely redone back in the fall; it was a six figure project and they want to make sure it stays intact.

Game one is April 3rd and some hot Red Sox prospects are expected to start their season in Portland including shortstop Xander Bogaerts, pitcher Matt Barnes and catcher Christian Vasquez. Sea Dogs General Manager Geoff Iacuessa says this year's class of players should be exciting to watch.
