Death Toll in China Flooding Climbs Past 200

(NECN/CNN) - In China, a dike burst Tuesday in the Fu River in Jiangxi province and forced the rescues of more than 1,200 people. About 35,000 people had to flee to higher ground.

Heavy rains in the region have killed at least 200 people and left more than 100 missing. About 2.3 million residents have been evacuated and 195,000 homes have collapsed. 568,000 other houses have been damaged.

3.95 million acres have been flooded, destroying 12.5% of the area's crops.

Damage is estimated at $6.17 billion.
