Flash Floods Pop Up in Cambridge, Somerville

(NECN: Cambridge, Mass.) - Heavy rains collected quickly in the streets of Cambridge and Somerville on Saturday afternoon, affecting traffic and requiring rescue efforts from emergency officials.

NECN viewer Philip Korsnes sent in this video, found on twitvid.com, of the flooding outside his home in Cambridge near Harvard Square.

As of 3:30 p.m., Storrow Drive eastbound and westbound at the Mass. Ave. Bridge and Longfellow Bridge were closed.

"This is the heaviest rain we've had in weeks, and we've had close to a month's worth of rain in some of these locations in just an hour or two," NECN meteorologist Tim Kelley said.

He said three-to-four inches of rain were picked up in just an hour or two.

"The worst of flooding rain is done," he said of Boston's situation.
