(NECN/AP) – The National Weather Service has issued multiple flood warnings for states across New England as another round of wintry weather sweeps through.

A narrow north-to-south band of rain, sleet and snow is moving from west-to-east, though sun is expected to emerge from west-to-east as the day progresses.

Coastal flooding is possible at midday high tide.

The Weather Service says the flood warning for the Pawtuxet River at Cranston, R.I. will remain in effect until Wednesday night. The river was at 9.6 feet Monday, above the 9-foot flood stage, and forecasters expect it to reach about 10½ feet by Tuesday morning, affecting parts of Cranston and Warwick.

The mix of weather has resulted in delays and closings across New Hampshire. Police in Salem report multiple roads are closed and advice people to avoid Main Street.

The Weather Service says a flood warning for the Housatonic River in New Milford, Conn. remains in effect. The river is expected to rise to a half-foot above flood stage Monday in both New Milford and Canaan.

Flooding across Massachusetts has caused damage to the roads. A massive sinkhole in Chelmsford opened up Sunday. Mass. State Police reported multiple accidents along the Mass. Pike Monday morning as the weather made roads slick.
