Carson Beach is one of many across the state that will have a lifeguard on duty Friday.

In response to this week’s pre-summer heat wave, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will expand early season weekend lifeguard coverage at regional wading pools, as well as inland and ocean beaches, to include Friday, May 31, 2013.

In the case of extreme heat at the end of this week, facilities that would be guarded on Saturday and Sunday will also be guarded on Friday.

Our Jackie Bruno also spoke to Dr. Mallika Marshall on how people stya healthy when temperatures top 90.

Dr. Marshall says it’s most important to stay indoors during peak hot hours, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. She says if you don’t have AC, hang out somewhere that does like a shopping mall or movie theater.

Dr. Marshall says hydrating is also most important. Don’t drink alcohol or caffeine because those will dehydrate you.

You should also wear light clothing and light colored clothing.
