Is Spring Here?

(NECN: Mike Cronin) - Golfers tee off on a new season at Green Hill Golf Course in Worcester.

“It's been a long winter. A long, cold winter,” said golfer Bruce Chansky.

Last year, the course opened in February because of a mild winter. On Friday, they opened for the first time in 2013.

New England PGA golfer Rick Karbowski was among those excited to hit the links.

“This time last year, I had given probably 100 lessons,” said Karbowski. “This year, I've given maybe eight or 10.”

A new season means a new chance for golfers to perfect their game.

“Not bad, considering,” said Chansky of his performance. “A bogey golfer and that's good this time of year.”

At Harvey's Farm and Garden Center in Westborough, owner James Harvey says April and May are their busiest months of the year. They spent the winter preparing for the spring.

“We're always thinking of that cycle, so it's always like this, will be great for Mother’s Day,” said Harvey.

With plants and vegetables growing inside the greenhouse - outside they're ready to brave the elements - even if the snow returns.

And across the bridge live some goats, Henry and Delalia.

They were enjoying a snack, courtesy of Susan Shorey and her granddaughter.

“It's always a treat to come see the animals and feed the animals,” said Shorey.

Back at the course, Gary Penna teed off for the first time this year. He was happy to be back on the greens.

“First day out, the course is in really good shape,” said Penna. “I'm very surprised. The greens are in nice shape for this time of year.”
