Local Businesses Prep for Winter Storm

(NECN: Jackie Bruno, Marshfield, Mass.) - The plows at Taylor Lumber in Marshfield, Mass. haven't got much use this year, and it's affecting business.

The lack of snow and ice have melted sales for several New England companies.

"It hurts when it doesn't snow," Ground Effects Owner Sean Bishop said.

"There's a lot of companies that don't profit and are probably struggling because of the lack of snow."

It's just the weather that has impacted business; the economy has also affected the lumber industry.

"With the decline in residential home values, a lot of the remodeling projects and new construction has just been off," Taylor Lumber Owner Andrew Taylor said.

Still, Taylor says he is trying to stay positive.

"There's a silver lining in every cloud. This winter, we've sold more BBQ grills, more outdoor equipment, chain saws, log splitters, things of that nature," Taylor said.
