MEMA Official: ‘Be Prepared' in Winter Storm

(NECN) - As the latest winter storm hits New England, emergency officials are telling the public to be careful.

Public Information Officer Travis Hengen of MEMA joined NECN to explain how the agency is dealing with the storm.

"Absolutely, we're ready to deal with this storm, but we're going to need some assistance from the communities out there," he said.

Gov. Deval Patrick asked people to stay off the roads in Eastern Massachusetts from 5 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday.

"Stay off the roads if possible, and be prepared to deal with power outages," said Hengen.

Hengen emphasized that crews are ready to combat the storm.

"The DOT has enough salt, at this time, to deal with this storm," he said. "At this time, there are probably over 1,400 private and DOT crews on the roads in Eastern Massachusetts. That number is expected to increase as the storm increases."
