Massachusetts Governor: Cape and Islands Remain Under Hurricane Warning

(NECN: Framingham, Mass.) - Although Hurricane Earl has weakened to a Category 1 hurricane, a hurricane warning remains in effect for Cape Cod and the Islands in Massachusetts. A state of emergency in the Commonwealth also remains in effect.

There will be rip tides and strong currents. Tropical storm force winds and hurricane force gusts can also be expected. Heavy rain can also be expected.

The greatest impact is expected between 8:00 tonight and 2:00 Saturday morning.

The weekend is expected to be nice and sunny on the Cape.

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick says "we are well prepared." Emergency supplies have been put in place, should they be needed.

The governor says the public should continue to take caution.

Downed power lines are also expected during the storm.
