Menino Asks Public to Cooperate With Snow Removal

(NECN) - As the snow banks in Boston get higher and higher, Boston mayor Tom Menino says crews are working as hard as they can to keep the city passable. The city has declared a snow emergency, and as many people as possible are urged to use public transportation.

"If you work from home, we'd really appreciate that," he said.

City workers have done a snow removal project over the last 6 nights, taking some large amounts of snow to area snow farms.

Menino says that luckily, the snow budget is the only section of the city budget that can be passed on from year to year. While the costs of cleaning up from these storms are high, he says that ultimately, public safety is the first priority.
