(NECN/CNN) - Some Mississippi homeowners are taking flood protection into their own hands.
Photos from the air show that hard-working residents of Yazoo City built small earth levees around their houses before the floods came.
From the air, it looks like the levees are doing their job -- although you can see some of the dirt washing away. Thousands of residents were told to evacuate ahead of the rising Mississippi River.
