National Guard Troops Ready for Action as Rain Pounds Massachusetts

(NECN: Brad Puffer, Lexington, Mass.) - In Massachusetts, Governor Deval Patrick has declared a state of emergency. He has activated 700 National Guard troops to help limit the damage from the latest rain storms.

The rain is threatening to make it the wettest March on record.

The rain is putting additional strain on residents already weary of dealing with flooded yards and basements.

The National Weather Service says more than 11 inches of rain
had fallen on Boston as of Monday, and the rain expected Tuesday
could break the monthly rainfall record set in 1953.
