Officials Warn of Historic Flooding for Memphis Residents

(NECN/CNN) It's a critical day Memphis as the bloated Mississippi river reaches what could be its highest levels in decades and residents who haven't already been affected are preparing for the worst. The Mississippi is expected to crest at 48 feet Tuesday, its highest level since 1937.

President Obama signed a disaster declaration for Tennessee Monday, making federal aid available to the areas affected.

Floodwaters have already swamped some Memphis neighborhoods and forced hundreds from their homes.

Holly Firfer reports.
