(NECN: Lauren Collins, Plum Island, Mass.) - Homeowners on Plum Island have been through storms like the one hitting Thursday too many times before.
"Everything was fine up until about 2010. And then we started noticing a dramatic change. An unnatural rate of erosion," says Annapolis Way resident Bob Connors.
Erosion that's left nearly all the houses on Annapolis Way. Connors' house sits high above the beach on steel stilts but he's watched recent storms take his neighbors foundations out to sea. Coconut fiber sandbags will hopefully save the little beach that's left.
"You start doing all the emergency measures you can just to protect yourself for the next storm," he says.
"We made a saw cut this morning in this deck. So it's now going to break away," says Jeff Jones.
He and his sister know the storm will try to take their parents house tonight. The home they've lived in since the 1970s.
"It's beyond frustrating. We're gonna lose everything our family has worked for over a lifetime and it's gonna go out to sea," Jones' sister, Cheryl Comeau.
