Possibly Record-breaking Temps to Start Summer

(NECN/AP) - Massachusetts residents are being warned to be ready for dangerous heat and humidity.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for inland eastern Massachusetts and the Springfield area. Temperatures are expected to soar into the 90s and humidity will push the heat index over 100 today.

It will also be hot in coastal areas, and an Air Quality Alert is being issued for Cape Cod and southeastern Massachusetts.

Daily temperature records are expected to fall in many areas today and tomorrow.

Authorities advise people to avoid outdoor activities and remain hydrated. Community cooling centers are opening in several cities including Boston.

Boston's Pine Street Inn is urging homeless people to use its air-conditioned facilities. Workers will bring water to those still on the street.
