Roof Ripped Off Duplex in Springfield, Mass.

(NECN: Springfield, Mass.) - A roof was ripped off a duplex when tornadoes ripped thorugh Springfield, Massachusetts Wednesday afternoon.

The woman who was interviewed by NECN's Eileen Curran, says she was taking a nap. When she awoke she described the tornado as the sound of a train.

Two tornadoes touched down in Springfield Wednesday afternoon. Four people were killed in Massachusetts: two in West Springfield, and one in both Brimfield and Springfield.

A shelter has been opened at the Mass Mutual Center in downtown Springfield for displaced residents. Governor Deval Patrick said hundreds are taking advantage of the shelter, and thanked the Red Cross.
