Smooth Sailing No More?

(NECN: Amy Sinclair, Portland, Maine) - The coast of New England is typically a very popular Labor Day weekend destination, but Hurricane Earl has the potential to ruin many vacation plans.

With cruise ship season now in full swing, NECN reporter Amy Sinclair checks in with passengers in Portland to see how they plan to weather the storm.

Passengers on the Celebrity Summit were more concerned today about Hurricane Earl and his plans for the weekend -- instead of shopping and lobster.

The cruise ship is supposed to head downeast then cross to Nova Scotia before returning to New Jersey. Because rough seas are likely, passengers are already swapping seasickness remedies.

The port of Portland is on track to have a record cruise ship season with 73 ships bringing in nearly 76,000 passengers -- two more are expected later this week.

Waterfront businesses and kiosks are, of course, hoping Earl doesn't stop by.
