Some Vt. Roads Flooded, Closed After Heavy Rain

JERICHO, Vt. (AP) - Record-tying rainfalls in parts of northern Vermont have triggered flash flooding along brooks and around culverts across the region.

In Jericho, resident Andrew Fletcher says he had just finished repairs from flooding in 2011 when a backed-up culvert led to his garage being washed away and damage to the foundation at the back of his house at Route 15 and Cilley Hill Road.

Fletcher said he had been trying to tell officials for some time that the culvert in front of his home was too small to accommodate the flow from heavy rains.

A flood warning was in effect in parts of Chittenden, Franklin, Caledonia and Lamoille counties. Eleven schools were closed in Chittenden County.

The Passumpsic River in northeastern Vermont also was a trouble spot.
