Tracking the Tropics: Igor and Julia Enter the History Books, Karl Will Strengthen Again

Hurricane Igor is barely a Category Four hurricane, and expected to fluctuate in intensity over the coming few days, but still giving Bermuda a good blow this weekend.  Hurricane Julia weakened from a Category Four to Category Three storm today, but for a time, she and Igor were both at Category Four status.  This marked the first time since September 16, 1926 that two Category Four storms were in the Atlantic at the same time.  Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Karl has weakened over the Yucatan, but will strengthen quickly when he re-emerges over water and heads for the Mexican coastline, north of Veracruz.
