Virginia Earthquake Felt in New England

(NECN) - A 5.9 magnitude earthquake originating near Mineral, VA was felt up and down the U.S. eastern seaboard as far north as the Canadian border and as far south as South Carolina.

Many national buildings were evacuated, including the Pentagon, White House and Capitol. In Boston, helicopters spotted people evacuating the Devonshire building, as emergency crews arrived.

Logan airport has resumed services; however, Amtrak has stopped trains for the time being.

On the Richter scale, a 5.9 magnitude earthquake only causes slight damages to roads and buildings.

No reports yet on minor or major damage.
