Wildfire Sparked at Firing Range Rips Through Utah

(NECN/DPS) - A wildfire, sparked at a firing range during a National Guard training session, is ripping across hundreds of acres in Utah.

The roughly 300-acre Machine Gun Fire moved in on the small community of Herriman on Sunday after flaring up at Camp Williams, a sprawling National Guard site about 30 miles outside Salt Lake City -- according to authorities.

By early this morning, 1,652 homes had been evacuated. Four houses are believed to have been lost. At least 100 others are threatened.

Officials say dry brush had caught fire during an artillery training session at Camp Williams.

No major injuries have been reported.
