(NECN: Justin Michaels, Newton, Mass.) – Well, it's not what you want to be doing on the first day of spring, but you’ll have to bundle up as winter marches on!
New Englanders woke up to chilly temps, snow on the ground and some dangerous black ice.
Black ice is an issue this Wednesday morning on side streets and back roads, but highways like 128 are moving just fine. It’s still a good idea to take it easy.
Are you sick of it yet? Snow. Ice. Scraping. Get lost, old man winter!
Well, he didn’t seem to get that memo yet. After our most recent bout of winter weather, despite the sun being up, it’s a slow go again Wednesday.
“Drive careful, drive slow, you know... Don’t make any sudden turns with the stirring wheel,” says Gary St. Hilaire.
This storm brought nearly 15 inches of snow to some areas, but the snow is the least of our troubles this morning. Ice and black ice, that dangerous stuff you can’t see until it’s too late, are the real problems. And they were an issue Tuesday, too.
“I went to the right to avoid him because they always tell you to go to the right... And I realized I was going to still get him so I went to the left and he bounced off a guardrail, hit the side of the truck and he jackknifed the truck,” says truck driver Marc Letourneau, who was involved in an accident Tuesday.

This tanker truck jackknifed because of ice. Three people were hurt including the woman driving the SUV that ended up under the tanker.
And in Foxboro, Mass., a head-on collision with a school bus was cause for some concern. It’s believed the icy conditions were to blame there, too.
But as of 7:02 Wednesday morning, the birds got the e-mail to start chirping because spring has officially started. You’ll be hard-pressed to find anybody who isn’t happy about that.
“Ii like winter but I’m ready for it to be gone... Bring on the spring,” says Andrew Peterson.
“I am definitely ready... Bring on the shorts,” adds Debbie Patton.
Because we are in New England, spring snow storms aren’t unheard of, so here’s a thought: there are 92 days until summer.
